We created Pollutle to challenge your perception of global emissions—guessing the country’s emissions and sources of pollution makes you realize what you know and don’t. It’s a fun way to think about different sources of emissions. Our goal? Get people talking and learning—whether as individuals or organizations. Ready to test your emissions IQ?
To create Pollutle, we used data from the Emissions Database for Global Atmospheric Research (EDGAR). Specifically, we used the time series EDGARv8.1 files. This dataset has emissions data for most major air pollutants such as Black Carbon (BC), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Organic Carbon (OC), Sulfur Dioxide (SO₂), Fine Particulate Matter (PM₂.₅), Coarse Particulate Matter (PM₁₀), Ammonia (NH₃), and Nitrogen Oxides (NOₓ). For this tool, we used emissions from the most recent year (2022) and grouped them into major sectors and subsectors. The major sectors included: Energy, Industry, Transportation, Residential, Agriculture & Land Use, and Waste for each country.
Air quality is a complex topic. At TD Enviro we are passionate about doing good science and having fun communicating complex data in new ways. Whether it’s air monitoring, air quality data science, or creating insights about the air we breathe, we love working with clients to find new and innovative ways to tell a story.
